MONTREALPoiesis to Praxis Exhibition

Break The Wires, 35mm, 2025.

I carry my camera everywhere, documenting moments of daily life and spontaneous adventures.
This image, captured during an off-roading trip in St-Jean-de-Matha, emphasizes the motion, energy, and the tactile textures of the forest. It also highlights the mud flying, wheels spinning, and sunlight filtering through the trees. The off-roading adventure was suggested by friends
during a period of recent grief, offering a way to reconnect with life and nature. This photograph explores poiesis, turning a lived moment into visual expression. It also embodies praxis, translating experience into action and embracing unpredictability. The image reflects identity and resilience, showing how engagement with the natural world shapes self-perception. By capturing spontaneity, motion, and energy, the photograph highlights presence, embodiment, and the ability of art to make a fleeting moment tangible from anywhere.

CONDORS RESTSOMEWHERE IN CALIFORNIA
I won’t reveal the exact location, but somewhere deep within the heart of California lies a hidden gem, a vast expanse of untouched wilderness. This 6,000 acre reserve preserves the raw beauty of the Golden State. Mountain lions roam its rugged hills, elusive and rarely seen. High above, condors drift lazily on the wind, while ants scurry along the forest floor, going about their endless work. Bears amble through dense groves, and snakes move silently beneath the brush.

We were guided through this remarkable place by Devlin Gandy, a national geographic photographer and anthropologist, who has devoted his life to studying California’s Indigenous people and plants. His talents reach far beyond academia, from ancient cave paintings to the ends of earth in Patagonia. Devlin has a deep connection to this land and wishes to share that with everyone who may not realize they are connected as well.

As we walked, he shared his vision for the future of Condors Rest. A collaborative project, with other visionaires such as Aaron Huey, who hope to blend art and nature for eco-conscious artists to have a playground where creation and inspiration comes from the landscape that surrounds them.
